The 2010 Our World International film series will consist of four movies from four different countries for teen and adult audiences. All movies start at 7 p.m. No admission charge. ****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Thursday May 27th at the Sargent Memorial Library, Boxborough - Departures (Japanese with English Subtitles), an Oscar winner in the Best Foreign Film Category. When his orchestra disbands, Daigo Kobayashi moves back to his hometown and takes a job preparing corpses for burial. Too embarrassed to admit his new career to his family, Daigo keeps his profession a secret, until he is faced with the death of someone close to him. **************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Acton Chinese Language School, Acton Recreation Department, and Acton Boxborough Cultural Council proudly present "2010 Acton Chinese Culture Day" on Saturday, June 5th at NARA Park. This unprecedented Chinese cultural event in Acton features exciting and fantastic programs offering the wide spectrum of Chinese culture throughout the entire day from 10:00am to 5:00pm. A professional Dragon Dance and several renowned Chinese music, dance, martial arts, yo-yo, drum groups from local and greater Boston will join the event. The live music and cultural performances will be presented to you at the Amphitheatre from 1:30-4:00pm, free of charge. For food lovers, authentic cuisine from Chinese restaurants of Acton and greater Boston will be provided from 11:30-1:30pm at $6.00 per order. Local Chinese restaurants will also serve specialty Chinese food on site. In addition, Chinese dessert will be available for purchase. A Chinese tea tasting tent will be set up for you to sit down and relax. The tea store will showcase a selection of tea over 80 varieties. Longing for a piece of traditional Chinese clothing and art works? Chinese stores from Boston will come to NARA to sell Chinese souvenirs, traditional clothing, Chinese paintings, art works, etc. There will be a Chinese Painting and Calligraphy exhibition to showcase art work from both professional artists and painting class students at ACLS. Chinese artists will perform painting show and write names in Chinese for you free of charge. If you are a plant lover, please go to the Chinese Bonsai tent to enjoy the wonder and beauty of Chinese Bonsai. Are you wondering what traditional Chinese kids games are? Please bring you children to enjoy the lively Chinese games. For younger ones, let them enjoy a few jumps on the Moon Bounce. Book vendors will be selling Chinese books, CDs and DVDs. Please check them out for leisure time reading, learning or entertainment. A documentary film about China will be played several times during the day. Are you amazed by the complexity of Chinese herb medicines and acupuncture? Don't miss the acupuncture demonstration tent! Chinese medicine doctors will provide free consultation. To extend this day experience in China, please stop by our 2010 Chinese Culture Day T-shirt sale tent. Please buy one each for your family members and a few for your friends who couldn't come. You are eligible to have one entry for a prize drawing when you buy one T-shirt. Enjoy double the fun and win something to take home. Funding Priorities

Acton-Boxborough Cultural Council Funding Priorities and Grant Evaluation:

Applications are initially screened using the following criteria:

• Specificity - project must include performance/exhibit date, audience, and confirmed venue. Application must include date and venue confirmation in the form of a letter or approved reservation form from the venue host.
  
• Non-substitution - Cultural Council funds are not intended to substitute, replace or relieve existing public funds for programs in the arts. Schools and libraries may only request funding for cultural enrichment activities that are led by outside artists, humanists or interpretive scientists. The cultural professional cannot be a current employee of the shool system.

Applications will then be evaluated using all of the following criteria:

• Must demonstrate benefit to Acton and/or Boxborough residents
  
• Collaboration between and among artists and local institutions
  
• Artistic excellence (as reflected in resumes, letters, press, videos, other qualifying materials)
  
• Diversity of age groups, cultural backgrounds and artistic disciplines
  
• Originality
  
• Feasibility - ability of the applicant to carry out the project as proposed
  
• Maximum community/audience impact, including ratio of dollars spent to number served.
