Canton Cultural Council

The Canton Cultural Council strives to use its available grants to maximize positive impacts to the most Canton Citizens possible. We encourage applicants whose projects will be accessible to the entire Canton Community rather than specific groups.

FY24 Local Priorities

Priorities of the Canton Cultural Council

The priority of the Canton Cultural Council is to bring cultural experiences to our community from a diverse group of artists, scientists and educators.
The council accomplishes this goal by offering grants to applicants committed to providing such experiences.
In order to bring awareness of the availability of grants, the council publishes articles in the Canton Citizen and Patriot Ledger providing information on the application process and the deadlines.
To promote the grant-funded programs, the council publicizes upcoming events on our Facebook page.
` Grant recipients are asked to note council sponsorship during their program to make the public aware of the council.
The council works constantly to increase its membership; having a presence at the annual Heritage Festival and the Farmer’s Market helps in recruiting new members as well as to increase the awareness of the council and its mission.

FY24 Local Guidelines

Canton Cultural Council Guidelines

The Canton Cultural Council awards grants for arts, science and educational programs.
Of primary importance is the diversity of the recipients of the grants. Canton is committed to assuring generational, racial, gender and ethnic representation.
Also of importance is the benefit to Canton. The council gives preference to programs held in town. Programs held outside of Canton require the participation of Canton residents or attendance of Canton residents. Applicants are not required to be from Canton
Grants in the past cycle ranged from $100 to $1,000

Criteria used in determining the awarding of grants include:
Qualifications of the applicants and the proposed program
Accessibility of the venue
Financial need
